In our fast-paced world, where pressures on time become greater and greater, there are all too-few times when fathers can share quality time with their sons. You probably have memories of those moments of sharing when the pace of living was a bit slower. Perhaps your father taught you to drive, or hunt, or fish. Maybe you have a memory of a spring afternoon when the two of you went out into the yard and threw a baseball back and forth or a little league game where you were on a team he helped to coach.
As boys grow into men, unfortunately the sharing opportunities grow even more rare. As a young adult, you move out of the family home, establish a life and family of your own. There are fewer and fewer chances to share things with your father.

Freemasonry, known popularly for its white aprons and arcane symbols, is the world’s oldest fraternal organization. Despite its longevity, Freemasons have long been shrouded in mystery. To outside observers, the organization’s rites and practices may seem cult-like, clannish and secretive — even sinister. Some of this stems from Freemasons’ often deliberate reluctance to speak about the organization’s rituals to outsiders. But it is also partly the result of many popular movies and books, such as Dan Brown’s ” The Da Vinci Code ” Doubleday, , that have fostered misconceptions or depicted the order in an unflattering light.
In reality, however, Freemasonry is a worldwide organization with a long and complex history. Its members have included politicians, engineers, scientists, writers, inventors and philosophers.
Freemasonry and women have a complex relationship, which can be readily divided into many phases with no demonstrable relationship to each other until the 20th century. A few women were involved in Freemasonry before the 18th century; however the first printed constitutions of the Premier Grand Lodge of England appeared to bar them from the Craft forever.
The French Lodges of Adoption which spread through Continental Europe during the second half of the 18th century admitted Masons and their female relatives to a system of degrees parallel, but unrelated to the original rite. After eclipse in the 19th century, they were revived as women-only lodges in the 20th, and these later adopted the male degrees to give rise to French women’s Masonry in the s. In the late s, rites similar to adoption emerged in the United States, allowing masons and their female relatives to participate in ritual together.
These bodies, however, were more careful to discriminate between the mixed ritual and the genuine Freemasonry of the men.

Come all you Freemasons that dwell around the globe, That wear the badge of innocence—I mean the royal robe Which Noah he did wear in the ark wherin he stood, When the world was destroyed by the deluging flood. Noah he was virtuous in the sight of the Lord, He lov’d a Freemason that kept the secret word, He built up the ark, and planted the first vine, Now his soul like an angel in heaven doth shine.
The fifteenth day rose the ark, let us join hand in hand, As the Load spake to Moses, by water and by land, Nigh to a pleasant river which through Eden ran, Where Eve tempted Adam by the serpent of sin. O when I think of Moses, it makes me to blush, On the mount of Horeb, where he saw the burning bush My staff I threw down, and my shoes I cast away, And I’ll wander like a pilgrim until my dying day.

The secret was lost, and likewise was found, ‘Twas by our blessed Saviour, it is very well known; In the garden of Gethsemane he sweat the bloody sweat ; Repent, my dearest brethren, before it is too late. It’s once I was blind, and could not see the light, When unto Jerusa m O there I took my flight, They led me like a pilgrim through the wilderness of care, You may see by the sign and the badge that I wear.
